Use box saw to make u-channels 1/4″ shorter than the shelf depth.
Run the edge of a drill bit along the ends of the u-channel to remove the burrs.
Drill holes at each end of the channel.
Twist the end of a drill bit lightly around the edge of the hole to remove the burrs.
Set the first channel where you want it, Clamp a guide board next to it, using a speed square to be sure it’s straight.
To prevent the channel from wobbling out of place, clamp a second board on the other side.
Make pilot holes, and then screw the u-channel into place.
Oops:
First channel wobbled.

Hello

This is about me. This is an easy place to test fonts. Big or small, thick or thin, one is bound to work. If I type a lot, I'll finally be able to fill this space out. For a writer, I sure do find it hard to come up with a long paragraph of filler material. I hope this is enough, because I can't think of anything else. Oh, now I can. Pi is circumference divided by diameter, or about 3.14. It can also be said that circumference is equal to two pi times radius.
